San Francisco Home Improvement and Performance Program (SFHip)

$1,000 to $2,000 additional rebates available for San Francisco residents to do home energy improvement projects. Start with a home energy audit.

San Francisco homeowners are now eligible to receive up to $8,000 in rebates and tax credits to make their homes more efficient through SFHip.

In early October of 2010, the San Francisco Department of Environment announced a program called the “Home Improvement and Performance Program” (SFHip). The program adds $1,000-$2,000 more incentive to the existing Energy Upgrade California rebate amounts of $2,000-$3,500, federal efficiency tax credits of $1,500, and the CA appliance rebates up to $1,000.

The incentive amounts are based on the energy savings accomplished in your home, and when combined with Energy Upgrade California rebates, look like:

How does SFHip work?

  1. You are a San Francisco homeowner and PG&E Utility Customer
  2. You sign up for a San Francisco home energy audit and hire a participating contractor in the Energy Upgrade California program (us) to make your home at least 20% more efficient. This makes you eligible for $2,000-$3,500 in rebates so far.
  3. If your income is less than 120% of Area Median Income (AMI), you qualify for $2,000 additional rebate through SFHip. Otherwise, you qualify for a $1,000 extra incentive. ( download the AMI levels for SF here)
  4. Once the energy improvements are completed on your home, SFHip verifies the work and issues the rebate check.
