As of April 1st, 2010 San Francisco residents are eligible to receive up to $50,000 in financing for money saving green upgrades like air sealing and insulation, windows upgrades, and solar. To access the money in the Green Finance SF program, follow these steps:

Choose the green upgrades you want. These include air sealing and insulation, duct sealing, upgraded heating systems, new hot water heaters, solar hot water and solar electric. Download a full list of eligible projects.

Hire an energy auditor. To get the $50,000 in financing, you must improve the efficiency of your house by at least 20%. A certified energy auditor will help you identify the most important and cost effective projects to achieve this 20% reduction, and will walk you through the financing application process.

Complete the projects. Once the upgrades have been completed and verified, you will receive a check for the amount you requested in the application. The property owner repays the financed amount through an addition to your property tax over the term of the financing.
